Not even 50k and they’re done.
Upgraded to carbon ceramic pads the old pads squeaked in the wet and made crazy dust. Only one casualty my trusty wobble extension.
My first two pot calipers itwas slightly annoying clamping one pot down and the other goes up.

I usually wrap a box wrench in a shop rag, put it across the pistons and clamp it from the center to do multi-pot calipers. A piece of 2x4 scrap can usually work as well if you can fit it in. A lot of people recommend just using the old pad and clamping on it, but I usually avoid that just because it’s so dirty.
Also this reminds me that I need to check the pads on my Forester. 65k and probably still on the original pads.

use old pad and big c clamp or channel lock to squeeze both pistons
alternatively, buy caliper compressor tool

That sounds like a good idea.

...use old pad...
Yes! That is the kind of redneck engineering it came here for!

Meanwhile, I ate front brakes every 5k in the FiST because I tracked and autocrossed it so much...

You can also use a piece of scrap 2x4. The old pads also can work nicely and a lot of people just do that, but I avoid it just because they are so dirty.

I have to change front and rear pads/rotors at 50000 kms on all my cars over here. normally costs me a set of tires too at about the same time.
no flat straight roads over here.

Eh, 50k miles isn’t great, but it isn’t horrible either.

I generally don’t mind swapping pads and rotors on a regular basis. Just means they generally provide superior braking force.

I need to order some brake parts soon, but my preferred rotor supplier only has 3 of 4 rotors listed on their website. I’d go elsewhere, but they’re a Canadian based company and they sell awesome coated, drilled and slotted rotors for dirt cheap. Got em on my BMW and for $30/ ea I absolutely cannot complain. They work well, and look the business.

I can relate to this. I’m legit considering to buy more agressive pads because i don’t even wear 50% of a stock one before the discs need replacing, so end up throwing away plenty of brake material..

50k is normal

Considering cars used to be considered disposable after 100k, 50k isn’t too shabby.

I was not at 50k yet and they were grinding.

Agreed. I’m shocked that the front brakes on my truck have lasted 65k miles now. Considering it eats tires every 30k miles no matter what I do, I’m calling that a HUGE victory.

Yep, not abnormal
